Lisa Rubino, Larry Watson win city tennis titles

Lisa Rubino rolled to her third consecutive Dowagiac City Tennis Tournament singles championship Sunday morning with a 6-3 and 6-1 victory over Sue Watson in the finals.
In the men's singles championship, Larry Watson won his 14th title with a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Jim Darr in the finals.
The men's final was a rematch of the 2004 finale.
Rubino defeated Taylor Townsend on Saturday, 6-1 and 6-0, while Watson defeated Townsend on Friday evening, 6-0 and 6-1.
The men's tournament also opened on Friday night with Josue Miranda defeating Mike DeRose (6-2, 6-4) and Mike Hoff defeating Dave Stroup (6-1, 6-3).
On Saturday, Watson defeated Miranda in the quarterfinals, 6-0 and 6-3.
In the other quarterfinal matches, Jack Miller defeated Mike Urbanski, 2-6, 6-4 and 6-4; Dave Negron defeated Chuck Rubino, 6-3 and 6-3; and Darr defeated Hoff, 6-2 and 6-2.
In the semifinals Saturday afternoon, Watson defeated Miller, 6-4 and 6-2, while Darr defeated Negron, 6-4 and 6-3.
This weekend the tournament will head into doubles play beginning Friday evening with first round matches in the men's and women's event. The mixed doubles tournament will be held on Sunday.
There is still time to enter the doubles tournament as the deadline is Wednesday.
