Suspect arrested in home invasion in Niles Township

NILES - Niles Township Police officers arrested a man who allegedly assualted another township resident.
At approximately 12:21 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, July 28, officers from the Niles Township Police Department were dispatched to the corner of Bell Road and 13th Street on a report of a male subject who was walking down the road. The officers were advised that it appeared that this subject was involved in a fight and was bleeding, the police reported.
Officers checked the area and were unable to locate this subject until they were called to a residence in Franklin Woods at 1950 S. 13th Street a short time later on a report of a subject allegedly smashing out windows at a residence.
Officers responded to this location; however, the suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived. A short time later, officers responded to another residence near 15th Street and Lawndale Avenue on a report of a subject who kicked in the front door of a residence and was threatening the resident at that location, officers reported.
Upon arrival at this location, Officers found the subject, James Woodrow Morrison, 27 years old, of Niles, at this residence, bleeding and needed medical attention. It was later reported to officers that Morrison was the suspect allegedly involved in all of these reported incidents.
Officers called for SMCAS ambulance who transported Morrison to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Further investigation of this incident by Officer Brian Rumer and Officer Darrell Snyder, leads to information that Morrison assaulted a resident of 1950 South 13th Street. This victim was later transported by SMCAS for medical treatment.
The extent of the victim's injuries are unknown as of this date and time of this release.
Officers were also informed that Morrison allegedly kicked in the front door of the residence near 15th Street and Lawndale and cornered one of the residents in the kitchen area, allegedly threatening bodily harm to the resident.
Officers were able to obtain arrest warrants for Morrison from the Berrien County Prosecutor's Office for Home Invasion 1st Degree, AWDW and for Aggravated Assault.
Morrison was arrested a short time later by the South Bend Police Department at South Bend Memorial Hospital on these warrants and lodged at the Saint Joseph County Jail in Indiana, according to police reports.
