Voters in Niles Township will be deciding Tuesday on whether they wish to continue to have their own police department. A two mill tax levy would allow the department to remain open, according to the township officials. Should the vote fail, the township would contract out for police services.
An old adage says nothing in life is free and you pay for what you get. If you want a local police department protecting your family and your property, then you will want to vote yes on Tuesday.
The township is responsible for your safety, but funding cannot drain its general fund.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Don't let your neighbor decide your fate and then complain afterwards. If you aren't sure which precinct you reside, or where your polling place is located, call the clerk's office at 684-0870.
