National Amateur Championship continues

GRANGER, Ind. - Tuesday morning brought the first round of single elimination Match Play of the WWGA's 79th National Amateur Championship at Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Ind.
In Championship Flight, yesterday's Medalist and top seed Anita Gahir, Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, defeated Natalie Hocott, San Antonio, Tex. by a 2 up score. Another Canadian, Ashley Smith, Calgary, Alberta, outlasted 2nd seed Kelsey Meyer, Chesterfield, Mo., 1 up.
Local player Julia Potter, Granger, defeated Brenda Chhuor, Cerritos, Calif., 1 up. Hoosiers Audrey Fellmeth, Indianapolis, Terra Miller, Crown Point, and Jennifer Nagel, Auburn, all were also victorious in their matches. Potter's Penn High School Teammate, Laura Ormson, lost to Kimberly Johnson, San Diego, Calif. Other Hoosiers falling short were Ellen Mueller, Evansville, and Chelsea Silvers, Martinsville.
Ormson's younger sister, Anne, also of Granger, defeated fellow Hoosier Brittany Kelly, Fishers, on the 19th hole in the First Flight. Also in First Fight, Jennifer Hong, formerly of Mishawaka, now living in Windemere, Fla., defeated Stephanie Simich, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, 4 and 2.
Players on the losing side today will enter a Consolation Flight tomorrow. Players victorious today will continue to compete in their respective flights. Matches in all flights will be played on Thursday morning. Those in Championship Flight will play their semifinal matches that afternoon.
Finals in all flights will take place on Friday morning.
