Name change becomes official

NILES - New name reflects community feel.
At the Brandywine Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Monday night the board voted unanimously to change the district's name from its current title to the Brandywine Community Schools.
The board also received an update on the high school football field light project from Rider.
Rider added, "We have gotten a lot of support from the community, saying they would like to help with this project, and we are looking for help from the district's foundation to raise funds. One of the things we are looking at in the proposals is to lease the equipment for three or five years.
In other business, with six district employees who are eligible to take the districts early retirement incentive, have chosen to do so. By them doing so, this will allow the district to recall five of the nine positions, for those who received layoff notices in May.
The board also passed a resolution stating any out-of-state student wishing to attend the Brandywine Community Schools must pay $1,500 in tuition per semester and $3,000 for the year.
The board received a presentation from the district's strategic planning committee, which consisted of district parents, community and business members and school staff, as well as an outside facilitator.
The Aug. 8, board meeting has been changed to Aug. 15, and will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bell Education Center.
