NILES - There's nothing like throwing a team together at the last minute.
That's exactly what the Niles Babe Ruth All-Stars had to do last week when they found out they were hosting Grosse Pointe for this past weekend's Michigan State Championship game.
Due to printing errors and conflicts, the schedule was changed and the league was informed last week.
This, unfortunately, did not work to Niles' advantage.
The All-Stars fell in two games Saturday to the Redskins, losing the first game 6-2 and the second game 9-3.
Pat Lewandoski of Grosse Pointe took the win on the mound, throwing two strike outs in three innings pitched.
Jake Harris suffered the loss for Niles, throwing two strike outs and allowing three walks and six runs in four innings pitched.
Niles was led offensively by Noah Udell, Dustin Zimmerman and Travis Rooney all with one single each and Zach Bloss with a double.
Top hitters for Grosse Pointe were Brian Barclay and Eric Allison both with two singles each and Lewandoski, Mike Herzog, Chris Stephens, Mike Hemovich, Max Getz and Michael Thomas all with one single each.
In the second game, it was Niles' Jake ferguson who took the loss on the mound against Stephens.
Ferguson had one strike out and allowed six hits and one walk, while Stephens had three strike outs, allowing four walks and four hits.
Top hitters for Niles in game two were Nick Hartman with two singles and two RBIs and D.J. Wolnik and Alex Lindzy both with one single each.
