ARDEN - South Bend was the champion of the annual St. Joe Kickers "Oldtimers" Summerfest Tournament held this weekend at the Kickers Club in Arden.
South Bend defeated the Chicago Hornets 5-3 in penalty kicks after the game ended 2-2 in regulation time.
The St. Joe Kickers finished third, defeating Chicago Real FC 1-0 and losing to the Kalamazoo Bulldogs 2-1 and Chicago Hornets 4-1.
Ian Girvan scored twice for the Kickers and Tim Judkins added a goal.
South Bend Bayer was champion of the women's division, defeating the St. Joe Kicker Chicks 4-0 and Kalamazoo Simmons Home Builders 6-0 in round robin play.
The Kicker Chicks also lost to Simmons Home Builders 4-0.
In men's exhibition play the St. Joe Kickers "A" team defeated the Dowagiac Chiefs 5-0.
Jay Fettig scored twice for the Kickers, and Andrew Girvan, Trent Frank, and Andrew Maier added one goal each. Tim Smith recorded the shutout for St. Joe.
In youth exhibition play Southwest Michigan defeated Dowagiac 2-0.
