The Dowagiac Junior Softball All-Stars edged Mattawan 6-5 in 10 innings Saturday afternoon at Russom Fields.
The victory avenged an earlier loss to Mattawan by the Dowagiac All-Stars.
Brooke Means went the distance, striking out three in 10 innings. Means did not allow a hit over the first three innings.
Mattawan finished the game with 10 hits.
Dowagiac led 3-0 until the fourth inning when Mattawan tied the score with three runs.
Dowagiac reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning to open up a 5-3 advantage.
Mattawan rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game.
Dowagiac finished with 10 hits led by lead-off batter Tasia Diaz with three.
Dowagiac also got two hits from Stephanie Grabemeyer and Kara Roberts.
Kortney Huston, Stephany Gross and Cailtin Courtney also had hits.
Dowagiac will take on Mendon tonight at 6 in Mattawan.
In other games over the weekend, Dowagiac defeated Mattawan 25-20 in 11-year-old All-Star competition.
In District 15 baseball play, Dowagiac dropped a 12-9 decision to Lawton in Junior Baseball on Friday night. On Saturday, Dowagiac was defeated by Three Rivers, 25-8, in 11-year-old play.
Also on Saturday, Dowagiac won 13-3 over Schoolcraft in Junior Baseball. Dowagiac defeated Three Rivers 6-4 in Senior Baseball (see related story Page 4).
Tonight, Dowagiac will face Centreville in Mattawan in Junior Baseball. That game will begin at 6 p.m.
