As part of the "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds" summer reading program, Dowagiac District Library sponsored a castle-building contest.
Summer reading participants were encouraged to build a castle mounted on a 12×24 surface with any materials they chose.
Thirty-two contest entries were received in media ranging from graham crackers and icing to Legos to wood, paper and cardboard.
The judges faced the difficult decision of awarding first, second and third prizes for these marvelous creations.
Two castles received the designation grand champions and first, second, and third prizes were awarded in three categories.
Many of the winners were present at the library Friday, July 8, for a group picture (page 2) and photos of the grand champions with their castles.
