Waaso win golf crown

EAU CLAIRE - Indian Lake Hills Golf Course was the host of the Ned Jamieson Memorial Tri-County Junior Championship on Wednesday.
Kale Waaso of Lawton shot a blazing 71 to win the boys 15-17 year-old division. Waaso was awarded a trophy and will have his name engraved on a permanent plaque that hangs in the Indian Lake Hills G.C. clubhouse.
Runner-up in the division was Tom Valha of Stevensville who shot a 77.
Second runner-up was Michael Baker, with a 79. Twin brothers, Cameron and Brandon Mock, turned in a matching pair of 82s.
Christopher Craft,13, of Dowagiac shot an 80 to win the boys 14-15 year-old division. He was closely followed by Zach Fetters with an 83.
Other top scores carded were Zack Russom, 93 with Tanner Melvin and Brandon Toumbla with 94.
Elizabeth Ecker,15, of Eau Claire carded an 85 to win the girls division.
Runner-up Kelly Kokker of St. Joseph turned in a 99.
Kristen Virgil, Andrea Vonk and Brea Eden all posted respectable scores as the only participants in the girls division.
Over 40 kids braved a hot, humid round of 18 holes. Next time the kids will bring their swimsuits to jump in the lake after golf!
First place winners and runners up received trophies. Third and fourth place participants took home certificates.
Ned Jamieson, a long time golf professional and instructor, made Indian Lake Hills Golf Course his home base, after a career that began in the early 1920s in Carnoustie, Scotland, Jamieson made many friends by sharing his wit, talent and love of the game of golf.
It is fitting that this tournament honors his memory and passes on his love of the game to the next generation.
