Winds expected in Niles tonight

NILES - Get ready for a change in the weather as Lake Effect Winds, a quintet based in St. Joseph, breezes into Niles tonight for a performance from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Riverfront Amphitheater.
Lake Effect Winds performs a wide variety of music, ranging from baroque and classical to 20th century styles such as show tunes, ragtime, and patriotic. The band's repertoire also includes Christmas and wedding music.
The five members of Lake Effect Winds all reside in the Southwest Michigan area. Each member exhibits their specialization in a different musical instrument to create a unique sound sure to blow you away.
Jan Street, a resident of Berrien Springs, showcases her talents on the flute. Along with being a member in Lake Effect Winds, Street teaches first grade at the Creative Arts Gifted/Talented Academy in Benton Harbor, along with instructing private flute lessons. Street plays with the St. Joseph Municipal Band and the South Shore Concert Band.
Ruthann Adams of Edwardsburg specializes in the oboe. When not playing in the band, Adams is a medical laboratory technologist at Elkhart General Hospital, as well as a massage therapist. In her free time, Adams showcases freelance oboe performances in Michiana.
Melody Prather of St. Joseph plays clarinet and is a substitute teacher, as well as an active member of the St. Joseph Municipal Band. Prather also enjoys teaching private piano lessons and is very active in the music program at First Church of God.
Warren Disbrow of Watervliet uses the French horn to display his melodic talents. Disbrow teaches social and business science at Grace Christian School in Watervliet. Disbrow is a retired Air Force bandsman and performs with the St. Joseph Municipal Band and the Andrews University Orchestra.
Lisa Bubar of Stevensville exhibits the musical power of the bassoon. Along with being a member in Lake Effect Winds, Bubar teaches private bassoon lessons and assists with the band program in the Lakeshore Public Schools. Bubar also finds satisfaction in performing with the St. Joseph Municipal Band and the Andrews University Orchestra.
Since its formation in 1997, Lake Effect Winds has performed for numerous civic and social events, weddings, and church services. Notable performances within the past year include the WAUS Second Sunday Series at Fernwood Gardens, the Beckwith Concert Series in Dowagiac and the Niles Concert Series at Riverfront Park.
