New year begins for All-Stars

Dowagiac Little League baseball and softball begins its second season tonight on what is forecasted to be a spectacular summer evening.
Dowagiac's Russom Fields will be a busy place in July as it is hosting as many as 33 games.
The Little League District 15 post season officially got started on Tuesday, however, Dowagiac will host its first game tonight at 6 when Mattawan faces the winner from a Tuesday night contest in Major Softball (MASB) competition.
Also tonight, Constantine will take on Schoolcraft in Major Baseball (MAJBB), while Dowagiac will face Three Rivers as well in Major Baseball.
On Thursday Centreville will take on the winner from tonight's contests in 9/10 Softball (9/10SB), while a pair of winners from competition tonight will square off in Major Softball.
Action will continue on Friday with winners playing in Major Softball as well as Dowagiac facing Schoolcraft in Major Baseball.
All games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
On Saturday there will be a pair of games for the winners in Major Softball. Both teams are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Beginning on July 11, Dowagiac will play host to games in the 11-year-old division (11sBB) as well as games in Junior Baseball (JRBB) and Junior Softball (JRSB).
Dowagiac will also host the the Senior Baseball (SRBB) district championship game at 6 p.m. on July 26. A second championship game is set for July 27.
Russom Fields will then begin hosting the Michigan Senior Baseball State Tournament on July 28.
The tournament will run through Aug. 3.
Further details on the state tournament will appear in the Daily News as soon as information is available on the teams that will be participating.
Dowagiac All-Star teams are also in action in Berrien Springs and Hartford as the post season is under way.
