NILES - On Monday evening the Brandywine Public Schools Board of Education discussed a possible name change for the district.
The current name of the district is the Brandywine Public Schools and they are looking at changing to the Brandywine Community Schools.
"The change from public schools to community schools really is the message we want to convey about Brandywine," Gary Rider, Superintendent of the Brandywine Public Schools said. "We truly are a community school."
The idea for the name change came out of the district's strategic planning sessions.
On Monday evening the Board of Education also made the decision to change its meeting dates.
The board will now meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month, at 7 p.m. at the Bell Education Center, as opposed to the first and third Monday.
The day change will take effect with the July 25 meeting.
Rider added that the board may also be able to designate one of its meetings as a regular meeting and then use the other one for board workshops.
In other business newly elected board member Dennis Hinsey and six year veteran Phil Bozung were sworn into office at Monday's meeting.
The board officers will remain the same with James Curran as president, Cynthia Benson as vice-president, Mike Shelton as secretary and Phil Bozung as treasurer.
The board member compensation was changed from $8 to $10 per meeting.
