Two years ago next month, the library opened the computer lab to the public. The lab was made possible by generous grants from the Hunter and Plym foundations. It has been a hub of activity every since.
About 3,000 people sign in to use the computers each month. June, July and August are our busiest months in the computer lab, with as many as 3,500 people using the computers each month.
There are as many reasons for using the computers as there are people using them. Some people use them to send e-mails and photos to family and friends, while others search for jobs and some take college classes online.
Even with 18 computers available, the computer lab is often full with all in use. In an effort to make the computers available to more people, we will begin limiting each computer user to two-hours per day beginning July 1.
In addition to the computer access the computer lab offers other services, such as scanning and color copies. There is a fee for each of these services.
Computer classes are available in the computer lab and a new schedule of classes will be available soon. Classes cover topics such as Introduction to the Internet and Word Processing with Microsoft Word.
Another new service which will be coming in the next few weeks will be broadband wireless network available to patrons with wireless capable devices throughout the main floor of the building.
Our most popular service is, of course, books available for loan. The following are a few of the newer computer related books available at the library.
