A combination of favorable bids and the upward trend of oil prices convinced Dowagiac City Council Monday night to move some of next year's work into the 2005 street paving project.
The city awarded an $83,000 contract from four bidders to Aggregate Industries of Kalamazoo.
Its base bid came in at $69,487.26 - below the administration's $75,000 estimate.
Nelson said Dowagiac expects to apply for an 80-percent state grant for next year's program, utilizing the $42,000 as local match for repaving under the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) small urban grant program.
Streets being resurfaced this year include:
Orchard Street, W. Wayne to Prairie Ronde.
Green Street, N. Lowe to W. Wayne.
McCleary Street, Clyborn to E. Prairie Ronde.
Sherwood Street, Lyle to McCleary.
Sherwood Street, McCleary to Colby.
W. High Street, Tuthill to S. Lowe.
S. Lowe Street, Hendryx to W. High.
