Kickers tighten grip on first place

The St. Joe Kickers tightened its grip on first place in the Blossomland Soccer League with a 7-2 win over the Dowagiac Chiefs Sunday at the Kickers Club in Arden.
Jay Fettig, the league's leading scorer, had a pair of goals as the Kickers improved to 6-0-1 on the season.
The Kickers also got goals from Greg Guernsey, Nick Lesch, Nick Sherrill, Andrew Maier and Phillip Fisher.
The Chiefs, now 3-4 on the year, picked up goals from Tony Black and Adolfo Andrade.
The Kickers are on top with 19 points while Diamonds United (5-2) are in second place with 15 points. P&R FC stands third with a record of 4-2 and 12 points.
Whirlpool United is 3-0-1 on the year and has 10 points. The Chiefs are fifth in the standings with nine points.
Jaier FC is 3-2 and also had nine points, while the Tornadoes are 1-4-1 and have four points.
The Rangers FC are 1-6 on the year with two of those losses coming by way of forfeits. The Mariners are 0-6-1.
Fettig has 13 goals to lead the league in scoring while Andrew Low of the Tornadoes and Ismael Hernandez of Diamonds United have 10 goals each.
Black, Takeo Ishii (Whirlpool United) and Sherrill all have seven goals with Rodolfo Hernandez (Diamonds United) and Troy Sink (Jaier) are tied for seventh in scoring with six goals.
Tied for ninth with five goals each are Eduardo Ducatti (Whirlpool United), Octavio Hernandez (Diamonds United), Kyle Kowalski (Chiefs) and Andre Motta (Whirlpool United).
The Kickers remain the highest scoring team in the league with 48 goals. Diamonds United is second with 37 goals and Whirlpool United third with 33 goals. The Dowagiac Chiefs are fourth with 26 goals.
The Blossomland Soccer league will return to action on July 6 when Whirlpool United hosts the Mariners at Rockey Weed Field in Berrien Springs.
The Rangers FC will host the Dowagiac Chiefs on July 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Ross Beatty High School in Cassopolis.
