NILES - Residents of Niles will no longer have to drive long distances to enjoy fresh fish and other barbeque fare.
South Bend native Richard Pfifer, who has been in the restaurant business for the last 25 years, has opened King Fish, located at 1305 N. Fifth Street in Niles. He also has another restaurant on Portage Road in South Bend, Ind.
The restaurants menu features a variety of food including, fish, chicken, pork chops, rib tips and many ethnic side dishes.
The recipes for all the food are all old family recipes, passed down in Pfifers family for generations.
Pfifer enjoys serving the people of the community well, with the food they know and recognize and enjoys getting to know the people as well.
When Pfifer opened his restaurant he knew that things might get a bit difficult with the street torn apart outside his business.
Another reason Pfifer wanted to open his restaurant in Niles is because of his familiarity of the community.
With growing up in South Bend, I did spend a lot of time in the Niles area, and liked what the community has to offer," Pfifer said. "So far the community has been very supportive and it's nice to see that."
Pfifer added he has customers coming from the South Bend region, and other nearby cities coming to Niles to see what his restaurant has to offer.
City Administrator, Terry Eull said, "I would like to welcome you to the city of Niles, and this was a difficult place to choose with the construction going on but, we wish you the best of luck."
