St. Joseph County Parks offer summer fun

NILES - St. Joseph County Parks, located in South Bend, Ind., has plenty of fun things to offer this summer at various parks across Michiana. Everyone is invited to attend these fun events.
4th annual Paddlefest
This Sunday, June 26, the 4th annual Paddlefest will be held at St. Patrick's County Park from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Michigan time),
Paddlefest events are geared toward beginner and advanced paddling abilities. Events include Fun Races on the pond, a Corporate Team Challenge, a 16-mile marathon, a half marathon and a duathlon.
This event is sponsored by Michianan Watershed, Inc. and St. Joseph County Parks.

summer day camp
St. Patrick's County Parks has openings for "Adventurous Outdoor Fun" summer camp during the week of Aug. 1-5 to children entering grades 6-8 in the fall.
This is a day camp that gives participants an opportunity to discover the wonders of nature. Campers will explore the outdoors through challenging activities such as hiking, swiming, kayaking and other wilderness challenges.
The camp is held at St. Patrick's County Park and sessions last from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Michigan time) with an overnight campout on Thursday night.
All campers will explore the basics of survival and will learn camping techniques, rock-climbing and other wilderness survival skills.

Canoe rental to be open July 4
Canoe/kayak rental at St. Patrick's County Parks Brown Barn will be open Monday, July 4.
Rental hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Michigan time) with weather permitting.
Long trip rental ends at 2 p.m. and all equipment must be returned by 6 p.m. A gate entry fee will be in effect. Short trip (four hour maximim) rental fee is $20 and long trip (five hour maximum) fee is $30.
Rental fees for one person kayaks are $15, short trip $25 and the fee for the two person kayak is the same as for canoes. All fees include canoe/kayak, paddles, required life jackets and shuttle service. Parental signature is required for renters under the age of 18.
