Niles Elks honor our nation’s flag

NILES - On Saturday afternoon, members of the Niles Elks Lodge, as well as community members, gathered at the Riverfront Amphitheater downtown Niles to celebrate the greatest symbol of the United States of America.
Funk then added that the Star Spangled Banner is held close to the hearts of Americans and is held close to the altar of the Elks organization, as their organization is the strongest promoter of flag day in the country.
Funk shared with the audience how in the beginning the flag of the colonies, in fact had no stars and stripes on it.
Funk added that it wasn't until sometime later that the flag of today started to take shape, as the stars and stripes were added. "The flag of today hasn't had any fundamental design changes since the 1800s.
