Southwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees held a public budget hearing, adopted SMC's 2005-2006 operating budget, continued the ongoing review of educational programs and services offered by the college, recognized Heidi Behnke for her recent creation of the Helen Behnke Memorial Scholarship Fund, accepted gifts and grants and conducted other business at the regularly convened meeting for June Tuesday evening on the Dowagiac campus.
Following the public budget hearing, the Board of Trustees adopted a balanced 2005-2006 budget.
Board Chairman Dr. Fred L. Mathews said, "The SMC Board of Trustees has adopted 39 budgets in the history of the college, all of which have been balanced.
"The measured and responsible steady growth and development of Southwestern Michigan College over the past 40 years has been a source of pride to this community.
During the meeting, trustees presented Heidi Behnke with a certificate of appreciation for establishing an endowed scholarship in her mother Helen's name.
President Dr. David M. Mathews updated trustees regarding recent and upcoming events.
