NILES - The Niles-Buchanan YMCA kicked off its 2005 T-Ball season last Monday with 15 sponsored teams this year.
Last night was the second week the league was in action and so far everything is running pretty smooth.
Despite the intense heat that has been hanging around Niles for over a week now, the kids still got out there and had a good time. Some very serious about the game, others more worried about a piece of grass or practicing their kart wheels.
Whatever the case the kids are comical to watch and are just out to learn the fundamentals of the game.
This league, like many others in the Niles are, is made up of volunteers. There are no officials, no score is kept and every team player gets an equal amount of playing time.
All games are played Monday evenings at 6 p.m. in the open field next to Ring Lardner Middle School (Apple Festival fields).
Come out and get an early glimpse of the future athletes in this area.
The YMCA also offers a Pony League for 7-9 year-old and 10-13 year old players. Games for the Pony League are held on Tuesday evenings.
Sponsors this year are: Shelton's Farm Market, Tyler Refrigeration, LaSalle Federal Savings Bank, Blimpie Subs &Salads, Mel Bookout State Farm Ins., Modineer Company, Majereks Hallmark Readers World, Shear Talent, Selge Construction, Tyler Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, Kruger Tools Plastic, Milano's Pizza, Tyler Hummer, Buchanan Pallets Products and Duffield Chiropractic.
