NILES - Not many nine-year-olds would take it upon themselves to raise funds by themselves for a local charity, but Hannah Horst of Niles did just that.
Hannah looked on the internet for some local animal shelters to help. After doing all the research, she could she choose Twisted Oaks Animal Rescue of Niles on Portage Road.
Hannah added she is a great lover of animals with horses being her favorite and it would be nice to help animals who are in need, by raising some money.
On her own Hannah was able to collect $28, but then her third grade teacher Miss Weglowski, worked with her to write a proposal to do the fundraiser at Brandywine Elementary, where Hannah is a third grader.
Hannah's own famly includes her parents, Martin and Dawn Horst, and a brother Caleb, 7.
People can view animals up for adoption from the shelter at the web site: twistedoaksanimalrescue.com, but appointments are necessary for adoptions.
