NILES - At the Brandywine Board of Education meeting on Monday evening the board approved a measure that lets the district move forth with a targeted early retirement incentive for its employees.
The early retirement incentive is designed to help those district employees who were recently notified of being laid off, or who the district cannot guarantee a full time position for the 2005-2006 school year.
With the incentive, senior employees who are currently in the same department as those who have been laid off would be given the chance to retire at an earlier time than they originally anticipated.
An example would be if there is a high school English teacher who is close to being able to retire, then they can choose to take the incentive and a first year English teacher will be able to retain their job, rather than being laid off.
The employees who choose to sign up for the early retirement incentive would each receive $25,000 which would be paid out over a two-year period.
