It was Lucky No. 7 for Brandywine's softball team as the Bobcats earned their seventh straight District title on Saturday at Berrien Springs High School.
Brandywine faced River Valley for the final game and just narrowly escaped a loss as Dee Echevarria had a two out hit in the bottom of the seventh to allow the Bobcats to score the winning run.
This Saturday, Brandywine will have a chance at winning its seventh staright regional title as it will face Kalamazoo Christian at Constantine High School.
The team also received some more good news this week as the All-Conference, All-District teams were announced with six members listed to the team.
Bobcat head coach Jim Myers also received the District and All-Conference Coach of the Year award.
Brandywine's baseball team didn't have quite the luck Saturday as it fell to River Valley in the championship game.
The Bobcat's were the defending district champions as they sent the Mustangs home with an 11-1 loss last year. This year, it was revenge for River Valley.
Buchanan's baseball and softball teams were also knocked out by River Valley in its first games Saturday both losing 5-1.
For Niles, it was the same story as both teams fell to Lakeshore in its first games of district action.
But the defending state champs will not be seeing that state victory this year as the Lancers were defeated by Dowagiac in 13 innings with a final score of 4-3.
Whether it was a win or a loss, all teams have provided a great season of spring sports.
