NILES - It's a special occasion when a business has been around for 20 or 25 years, but when one can say they have been around for 30 years that's even better. JR Aquatics located at 3003 S. 11th Street in Niles has been in operation for 30 years in the Michiana area.
JR Aquatics started out down in South Bend, Ind. but then moved back to Michigan and has been at its current location since 1995.
The business offers its customers scuba equipment of all types including air tanks, wet suits, weight belts and masks. They also have a large selection of boating equipment including water skies, wake boards, tow ropes, and life jackets. They also have things for those who do fitness swimming.
Lampert added that there is a market in the area for scuba equipment and the business is relatively new to the boating end of the business.
But the families entrepreneurship doesn't stop with the aquatics part of the business.
About four years ago the Tiser's son Daniel worked for a tool company in the South Bend area whose owner was looking to get out of the business.
Tiser decided that he would like to buy the tools from the owner and start his own business.
Next door to JR Aquatics you will find Michiana Tool Rental. Here customers can come in and rent any type of tool they are looking for that they might not have for a project they are working on at home.
They even deliver the tools to locations for their customers.
