CASSOPOLIS - Switching the jail food service contract from Aramark to Canteen is expected to save Cass County $20,000 without a drop in service, Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported to the Board of Commissioners Thursday night.
Commissioner Jack Teter, R-Edwardsburg, said, "I think you should be commended. That's a substantial savings."
He said the jail serves more than 500 meals daily.
The contract awarded Thursday is for three years.
Canteen will also invest in new food trays at an approximate cost of $2,500.
