Dowagiac has a new girls' varsity basketball coach the district announced Thursday afternoon.
Current boys' basketball coach Greg Blomgren will replace Joe Spitale, who resigned at the end of the 2004 season.
Blomgren, who has coached the boys' basketball team the past two seasons, was announced as coach Thursday afternoon by Dowagiac athletic director Greg Younger.
Blomgren's appointment as girls' basketball coach is pending school board approval at its regular June meeting Younger said.
Blomgren saw several games last year from the stands and is looking forward to playing games this summer to evaluate the players.
Blomgren will continue to coach the boys' basketball team as well.
He said he hoped that he would be able to keep last year's staff together, although he has not talked to all of them yet.
The 2005 season is set to begin Tuesday, Aug. 30 when the Chieftains host Berrien Springs in a non-conference contest.
