STEVENSVILLE - Jarrett Bross handcuffed the Dowagiac varsity baseball team Tuesday afternoon as St. Joseph advanced to the Division 2 district semifinals with a 2-0 win over the Chieftains.
The Chieftains (11-20) gave St. Joseph, ranked No. 7 in the latest coaches poll, all it wanted before falling in the pre-district contest at Lakeshore High School.
Bross (8-0) tossed a four-hitter with eight strike outs and just one walk.
Jesse Cox (1-6) nearly matched Bross pitch-for-pitch, however, the senior got very little offensive support.
Cox scattered six hits while striking out three.
St. Joseph scored its first run in the third inning and then completed the scoring with a run in the sixth inning.
Both teams were sharp defensively.
Freshman Jamie Simpson doubled for the Chieftains, whose other hit came from senior Rob Duszynski.
St. Joseph, which will face defending Division 3 district champion Edwardsburg on Saturday in one semifinals at 10 a.m. at Lakeshore High School, got a double from Cody Lovell.
Host Lakeshore will face Niles in the second semifinal on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
The finals are scheduled for 3 p.m.
