NILES - At approximately 3:42 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, the Niles 911 dispatch center was notified a man was trapped underneath a car at the Berrien Woods Apartment Complex in Niles Township.
Officers from the Niles Township Police Department were first to arrive on the scene and observed Shawn Steward, 20, lying face down with his head and right arm trapped beneath an automobile that had fallen from a jack.
Township officers Kidwell and Scalf immediately recognized the life threatening situation and directed bystanders to assist them in lifting the vehicle and sliding Steward out from beneath it. Steward was conscious upon extraction and was transported to Lakeland Hospital by SMCAS paramedics.
In another report, on May 13, at approximately 5 p.m. Niles Township police officers responded to a possible domestic dispute call at 2006 Ontario Road, Lot No. 18, made by Ember Collins.
Upon their arrival, officers received information about possible marijuana possession by Keith Tibbs.
Officers questioned Tibbs and Collins which resulted in sufficient information to obtain a search warrant to search the suspect's 1992 Plymouth Voyager where Collins said the marijuana was stashed.
A search of the van located 16 grams of suspected marijuana in a drawer under the passenger seat of the vehicle. One bag was inside a metal tin and a small amount of suspected marijuana was lying loose inside of the tin. Two other baggies with equal amount were also reportedly found.
A small amount of this suspected marijuana was field-tested with a positive result by the officers, the report states.
Tibbs was arrested for the possession with intent to deliver marijuana and was lodged at the Niles Law Enforcement Complex without bond. Tibbs was also arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Allegan County for failure to appear.
On May 14, civil forfeiture paperwork was served to Tibbs for the van.
