Dowagiac baseball team swept by Battle Creek Lakeview

The Dowagiac varsity baseball team was swept by visiting Battle Creek Lakeview Tuesday afternoon in Big 16 Conference non-divisional play.
Lakeview won the opening game 11-1 in six innings, while the Spartans won the nightcap, 6-4 in eight innings.
Lakeview led 1-0 after three innings, but broke the game open with back-to-back five run innings in the fifth and sixth.
Dowagiac scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
Jesse Cox (2-5) took the loss as he allowed six runs on six hits. Jamie Simpson pitched the sixth inning, allowing five runs on six hits.
Cox and Scott Wilkinson doubled for two of Dowagiac's three hits.
In the second game Lakeview scored two runs in the eighth inning to complete the sweep.
Wilkinson (1-5) took the loss in relief of Huey.
Wilkinson doubled for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac (10-16) returns to action today as it travels to Niles to take on Brandywine in a non-conference doubleheader scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
JV baseball
The Dowagiac junior varsity baseball team split with host Battle Creek Lakeview on Tuesday.
Dowagiac won the first game 8-6, but dropped the second, 11-1.
Jason Fryman (4-1) picked up the victory as he allowed two hits and struck out three. Chris Primley and DJ Edgerly worked the seventh inning with Edgerly picking up the save.
Offensively for the Chieftains Edgerly had a single and three RBIs, while Reggie Fritz had a single and two RBIs. Dowagiac also got an RBI from Fryman.
In the nightcap Tony Saviano (3-2) took the loss. Fryman and Tyler First also appeared on the mound for the Chieftains.
Richie Hutchinson went 2-for-3, while Jake Shelton added a single.
