Dowagiac blanks Coldwater, 2-0

The Dowagiac varsity soccer team evened its record at 1-1 in the Big 16 Conference Soccer Tournament – Black Division Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over visiting Coldwater.
Dowagiac, which dropped a 3-1 decision to Kalamazoo Loy Norrix on Monday afternoon, rebounded with a pair of first half goals and then played solid defense the remainder of the contest.
The Chieftains, 5-7-1 overall, got goals from senior Kyleigh Mott in the sixth and 15th minute of the match to account for all the scoring.
Dowagiac had numerous chances to score against Coldwater, but could not find the back of the net.
The Chieftains outshot the visiting Cardinals, 32-4.
Senior keeper Jackie Sayre recorded the shut out.
The Big 16 Conference Tournament continues on Monday. Dowagiac will face the winner of Wednesday night's match between Battle Creek Harper Creek and Benton Harbor.
Dowagiac will once again host the next round of the tournament.
The match will begin at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that match will play again on Wednesday, May 25.
