Chieftains split with Portage Northern

The Dowagiac junior varsity baseball team split a Big 16 Conference non-divisional doubleheader with Portage Northern on Thursday.
Dowagiac lost 4-1 in the opener and then won the nightcap, 2-1.
Tony Saviano, who had the lone hit, took the loss and is now 3-2 on the year. Reggie Fritz worked the seventh.
In the second game, Troy Stover went the distance to improve to 3-2. He tossed a three-hitter with five strike outs.
Kyle Bailey scored the winning run in the sixth on a squeeze by Alex Withorn. Saviano, Kyle Prak, Chris Primley and Stover all had hits for Dowagiac, which is now 14-6 on the season.
