Chiefs split with Huskies

The Dowagiac varsity baseball team split a Big 16 Conference non-divisional doubleheader with host Portage Northern on Thursday.
The Chieftains (8-13) dropped the opening game, 8-7, but rallied to win the nightcap, 5-0.
In the opening game Jordan Huey (2-3) took the loss as he worked four innings, allowing five runs on five hit.
Dowagiac had eight hits in the game led by Rod Duszynski who was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Jamie Simpson singled, doubled and drove in two runs, while Huey had a single and two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Jake Cox (3-1) went the distance to pick up the shut out. Cox allowed seven hits.
Dowagiac finished with 11 hits in the contest led by David Stuppy who went 3-for-4. Mike Kasper had two hits and two RBIs, while Nick File had two hits. Simpson again doubled and singled for the Chieftains.
