NILES - On Nov. 8, voters will have a new name to consider for the Niles City Council seat which represents the 4th Ward.
Robert Burch, of 548 W. Main St., entered his petition for the City Council seat before the 4 p.m. deadline yesterday, placing him opposite the current Councilman Scott Clark.
Clark is currently the only council seat that is being contested.
Incumbents Pat Gallagher representing the 1st Ward, Robert Durm from the 2nd Ward, and Bill Weimer of the 3rd Ward entered their nominating petitions for City Council seats uncontested. They will serve four year terms unless write-in candidates change the balance.
Burch has been a member of both the planning commission and the zoning board for the City of Niles for the past three years, and has lived in the 4th Ward district since January of 2004.
The 4th Ward includes all residents in the city limits west of the St. Joseph River.
Due to the lack of candidates, there will be no primary election held this year in August, which slates the next election for November.
