Chic 'n Shabby, which opened Friday at 216 S. Front St. in downtown Dowagiac, isn't an entirely new business, but one Jackie and Tom Rinehart are transplanting from Niles.
She operated for about a year in Niles, then they moved to Indianapolis before returning at the beginning of 2005.
The Rineharts are South Bend, Ind., natives who met at LaSalle High School.
He formerly worked in the recreational vehicle industry.
Dowagiac "is a beautiful little town with excellent restaurants," he said.
The couple have a Niles address, but live in Cass County.
The Rineharts also considered locating in Ludington, where they lived for quite a few years.
Dowagiac still "has a hardware store, a shoe store and little dress shops. All of it is still here. That's a plus," Jackie said. "We try to keep our prices affordable for hometown people. You've got to look at everybody. Not just Chicago people and tourists, but people who live here."
Chic 'n Shabby will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Call 783-0409.
