Second Baptist installing Dr. Whitt on May 22

Second Missionary Baptist Church of Dowagiac, now 137 years old, will celebrate the installation of its new pastor, the Rev. Carl L. Whitt, M.D., on Sunday, May 22, at 4 p.m.
The speaker will be the previous pastor of 32 1/2 years, the Rev. H.C. Smith, D.D., who retired in December 2004.
Rev. Clifton Rhodes Jr., moderator of Chain Lake District, will also be a guest at the service.
Rev. Whitt started his journey when he was called to the ministry in 1986.
He was ordained as a deacon in 1989, accepted the call from God to preach the gospel in March 1995, began preaching on April 30, 1995, and was ordained as a minister by the Chain Lake District on Nov. 9, 1997. Rev. Whitt has been an associate minister at Second Baptist for seven years.
Rev. C.L. Whitt and his wife, Diann, have four children. Pastor Whitt is also a surgeon in Niles. He is the son and nephew of the late Buster and the Rev. Chestley Whitt of Fort Wayne, Ind.
