Miss Cass orientation slated May 21

The Miss Cass/St. Joseph Scholarship Program is a local preliminary to the Miss Michigan and the Miss America Pageant, which is the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women.
There will be an orientation meeting Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at Cass District Library, M-62 N., Cassopolis, for any contestants interested in participating in the 2006 Miss Cass/St. Joseph County Scholarship Program.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend this meeting.
The pageant is open to young women between the ages of 17 and 24 who are living, working full time or attending school in Cass or St. Joseph counties.
Areas of competition include talent, 35 percent; interview, 25 percent; evening gown, 15 percent; swimsuit, 10 percent; casual wear, 10 percent; and on-stage question, 5 percent.
The Miss Cass/St. Joseph Scholarship Program will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Southwestern Michigan College.
The winner and runners-up will be awarded more than $2,000 in scholarships and other gifts.
She will represent Cass and St. Joseph counties in the 2006 Miss Michigan Pageant.
