NILES - It's not to late to become part of the Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life, an event that is for the whole family. It's an overnight gathering of celebration and remembrance.
Relay for Life helps to raise funds for the fight against cancer, a disease that effects one in three Americans in their lifetime. All the funds raised during this event go to the American Cancer Society.
The Nile-Buchanan Relay for Life committee invites and encourages cancer survivors in the community to participate in this event. They have four survivors that serve on the Relay committee, and the survivors' victory lap, ceremony and dinner start at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 23.
If anyone knows a survivor who would like to be invited to the dinner is to contact Lisa Rutledge at (574) 273-5311.
The Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life will take place on July 23 and 24, at the Niles High School football stadium, rain or shine.
Asmus added that she has a committee of 20 people who are helping her to organize the event this year. Along with the survivor ceremony and dinner, there are many other different activities the group is planning, along with entertainment.
They been working since November getting things ready and is comprised of former chairs, survivors and other team captains.
The Nile-Buchanan Relay for Life is also online this year. People who would like to know more about the event can go to www.acsevents.org/relay/mi/niles.
According to the Relay for Life website some three million people will participate in the event in 4,200 communities across the country and will raise millions of dollars to fuel the American Cancer Societies mission.
They can find out information about the American Cancer Society, the different events associated with the Relay for Life event and how they can donate to the Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life.
As the American Cancer Society website states Relay for Life is about being a community that takes up a fight and together that community will achieve victory over cancer. Niles is one of those communities in this fight.
