NILES -Buchanan's Brad Burns and Niles' Jenna Somrinec have been chosen as the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for April 18-23.
Burns has been a big part of the Bucks' tennis team.
He was the lone winner against Edwardsburg's Nate Harness at No. 3 singles last Wednesday.
On Monday he picked up the win against Dowagiac's Mike Hoff at No. 3 singles.
Somrinec was the medalist at the second jamboree of the season at Indian Lake Golf Course. She shot 51 on the day.
Somrinec also took home the medal at the first jamboree of the season held at Hampshire Country Club. She shot a 53.
Each week, the athletic directors from Dowagiac, Cassopolis and Edwardsburg will nominate players for the Athlete of the Week.
In April, each senior Athlete of the Week winner from all three sports seasons will submit an application for the scholarship.
Spring sports athletes will be eligible for the 2006 Athlete of the Year Scholarship.
Leader Publications will then select a boys' and girls' Athlete of the Year from either Cassopolis, Dowagiac or Edwardsburg.
The two athletes will receive a scholarship for an as yet to be determined amount.
The winners will be named in May.
