The Miss Dowagiac Scholarship Pageant, in conjunction with the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, will host a spring fashion show, and salad and dessert luncheon at Wood Fire Italian Trattoria, featuring today's hottest trends from The Marshall Shoppe and Underwood's Shoe Store.
The premiere springtime event will take place on Saturday, May 28, at noon at Dowagiac's downtown Italian restaurant.
Event chairman Beth Cripe is a member of the Miss Dowagiac Scholarship Pageant Executive Committee.
Tickets are priced at $20 and are available at the Chamber of Commerce office, located within the train depot, and from Cripe and other members of the Pageant Executive Committee, who include Pageant Director Tracy Galbreath; Scholarship Chairman Deb Cuthbert; Nancy Vylonis of Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital; and Vickie Phillipson, program director of the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Authority.
Proceeds from the fashion show and luncheon are earmarked for the scholarship fund, which this year awarded $2,800 to members of the Miss Dowagiac court.
Modeling the latest in spring fashions will be Miss Dowagiac 2005 Courtney Dufour, the 17-year-old daughter of Brad and Vicki Dufour, and members of her court: Katie Wright, first runner-up; and Keera Morton, second runner-up and Miss Congeniality.
Deb Cuthbert, who has been networking with the former queens, said the featured models will also include Anna Marie (Ely) Mallow, Miss Dowagiac 1941; Barbara (Kazlauskas) Carlson, Miss Dowagiac 1981; and Teri Sue (Livingston) Turak, the 50th Miss Dowagiac in 1989. Fashions from The Marshall Shoppe, which is celebrating its 60th year, are expected to include seasonal apparel from such lines as Tribal, Joseph Ribkoff and French Dressing, as well as Brighton jewelry and accessories.
Only 80 tickets will be made available for sale to the public and sold on a first-come basis. "Wood Fire Italian Trattoria will provide an eloquent backdrop and atmosphere for the luncheon and fashion show," Cripe said. Seating will be available in the main dining room.
