JV soccer team opens season with setback

The Dowagiac junior varsity soccer team finally got its season kicked off on Monday with a 5-1 setback at the hands of Edwardsburg.
Edwardsburg scored the only goal of the first half in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Eddies built up a 4-0 lead with goals in the 41st, 43rd and 45th minutes.
Mindy McLaughlin averted the shutout for the Chieftains with a goal in the 54th minute on a cross from Stephanie Barnas. It is McLaughlin's first career goal.
Edwardsburg completed the scoring in the 66th minute.
The Chieftains return to action today as they travel to St. Joseph for a Big 16 Conference West Division match. Play is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
