The visiting Dowagiac varsity baseball team was on its way to a Big 16 Conference non-divisional doubleheader sweep when darkness got in the way Tuesday night.
The Chieftains won the first game 9-7 and were up 4-1 against Kalamazoo Loy Norrix when the nightcap was halted due to darkness in the third inning.
The second game was only going to be a five inning contest, due to umpires arriving late, the second game was not completed.
Freshman Jake Cox picked up his second win of the season as he worked four innings in the opening game, allowing three runs on two hits with three strike outs and no walks.
Jordan Huey worked the first three innings and did not get a decision. Huey allowed four runs on three hits with four walks.
Dowagiac banged out 12 hits compared to just eight for Loy Norrix.
Brandon Simmons had two doubles, while David Stuppy, Jesse Cox and Rob Duszynski also doubled.
Stuppy was 2-for-3, while Cox was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Duzsynski, Matt Dodson, Mike Kasper and Simmons all had two hits. Duszynski and Kasper also drove in a run.
JoAngel Goins delivered the game-winning, two-run single in the seventh inning for the Chieftains.
Jesse Cox was pitching for the Chieftains in the second game when it was stopped.
