Chieftain softball blanks Loy Norrix twice

The Dowagiac varsity softball team ran its record to 8-1 Tuesday with a sweep of host Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
Dowagiac won the first game 12-0 and then took the second game 18-0. Both games were halted after five innings.
Mo Pickar (2-0) picked up the victory as she allowed just two hits.
Brittney Reist had a double for the Chieftains and Brittany Bruens a triple. Dowagiac finished with 11 hits.
In the second game Dowagiac got a one-hitter from Ashley Willis, who improved to 3-0 on the season.
Reist had a double and a triple for Dowagiac, which also got a triple from Lindsay Tyler.
Dowagiac returns to action on Thursday when it travels to South Bend, Ind. to face Riley.
JV softball
The Dowagiac junior varsity softball team swept Loy Norrix, 12-1 and 11-0.
Katie Roach went the distance to improve to 3-0 on the year. Roach struck out 12.
Sara Ausra had a triple for the Chieftains, while Felicia Hood had a pair of doubles and a single. Roach and Lynn Zachary also had doubles.
In the second game Lori Key (2-1) picked up the victory.
Amelia First had two hits for Dowagiac, while Beth Williams, Kathy Lindt, Alysha Newman, Roach and Lindsey Truitt also had hits.
