NILES - Cedar Lane's softball team was able to add a few more games to its roster this year and will open its season next month.
The school has had a softball program for quite some time, but this is the first year they have had more then two schools involved.
The team, which is made up of 15 players, has five scheduled games and one tournament all being played in May.
Wyatt Hickey, Peter Richard, Jeremy Kirshbaum, Marissa Pitt and Kelly Davis are just a few of the returning players for the team.
Alternative schools from St. Joseph, Watervliet and Marcellus are some of the schools involved in the league.
All teams are co-ed with at least three girls on the field at all times.
"It's tough trying to push the MAAA because there isn't really a lot of teams down here and a lot of them can't travel. Everything is so far away that it makes things tough. But I keep going to meetings every month and I hope to get more teams involved and form an actual league next year with six to eight teams," Barnhardt added.
Cedar Lane will open up its season on May 4th at Vella Park against Portage Central. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
