There's some good news for Dowagiac Union Schools to offset a forecasted enrollment decline in the 2005-2006 budget.
Crandall continued, "I'm very proud of all employee groups in the district, from our support staff to our teaching staff and administrators. Virtually everyone took a wage freeze this year in the interest of fiscal responsibility.
We're able to handle that through attrition. There are still a lot of unanswered things out there with the budget. The one thing we do know is that dollars remain very tight as we prepare to present the budget" for board approval in June.
New polling places
for school election
Crandall reminded voters in the May 3 school election that not only has the election consolidation law shifted balloting from its traditional time in June, they will be going to different polling places.
Similar to Mark Herman challenging Prosecutor Victor Fitz, Newitt was put in the position of choosing between his candidacy and his job in the court system.
Corinne Hoyt, Sue Miller and Bill Leonard are challenging incumbent Greg Ferrier for the four-year position.
Voters will also be asked to renew the 18-mill, non-homestead property tax.
Polling places May 3 are:
City of Dowagiac and Pokagon or Berrien townships vote at City Hall.
Silver Creek, Bainbridge and Pipestone townships vote at Silver Creek Township Hall.
Wayne, Volinia and LaGrange townships vote at Wayne Township Hall.
Keeler Township votes at its township hall.
