Mayor issues proclamation praising Dogwood festival

Dowagiac Mayor Donald D. Lyons Monday night presented a proclamation to Dogwood Fine Arts Festival Executive Director Bobbie Jo Hartline urging "all citizens to join me in this sincere expression of our appreciation and our best wishes for a very exciting festival the week of May 6-14."
The Dogwood festival "is uniquely geared to bring fine arts performers to a warm, small-town atmosphere," Lyons said.
The mayor's proclamation also notes that "world-wide authors, speakers, performers and celebrities have visited our community to expand our appreciation of fine arts."
The 2005 lineup includes: May 6, Beckwith Theatre; May 7, Toast 'n' Jam, featuring Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition artists, antique appraisal clinic and Encore Dance Company with a special guest choreographer; May 9, sculptor Nina Akamu; May 10, storyteller master class; May 11, storyteller Dan Keding; May 12, youth fine arts night; Friday, May 13, author and mystery writer Sara Paretsky; and May 14, the Dogwood Tea and Hohner Institute of Percussion.
