Bucks softball remains undefeated

RIVER VALLEY - The Buchanan varsity softball team took the doubleheader win against River Valley Monday night and remain undefeated with a 3-0 overall record.
The Bucks took a nail-biting 3-2 first game win when a triple from Emily Ross in the top of the seventh scored drove in a Buchanan runner to tie the game at two. Jaclyn Mummaw's saftey squeeze bunt drove in Ross for the game winning run.
Ashley Pointer was the winning pitcher for the Bucks against Britney Warren.
Top hitters for Buchanan were Mummaw with a triple, Ross with a triple and Leslie Niemier with a single.
Buchanan had a more comfortable 12-8 win in the second game. The Bucks scored four runs in the top of the first and one in the top of the second to take a quick 5-0 lead over the Mustangs.
River Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the second, but two more runs in the top of the third kept Buchanan a good distance away with a 7-2 lead. River valley was able to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at seven.
Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning, but Buchanan's four runs in the top of the ninth was anough to give it the win.
Pointer was the winning pitcher against Warren. Top hitters for the Bucks were Mummaw two singles and a doubles, Jil Woodrick with two singles, Tracy Brelowski with two singles and a double, Ross with a single and Hayley Burks with a single.
Buchanan will host Watervliet on Wednesday for a non-conference game set to begin at 4 p.m.
