Dowagiac City Council Monday night approved the sale of three acres of Commercial Center property along M-51 South to Leisure Living Management for $120,000.
An assisted living facility is "one of the items we've been working on for some time," City Manager William H. Nelson Jr. said. The sale agreement also calls for a yet-to-be-determined credit to the developer for installation of public infrastructure. This credit will be for extension of the street and utilities, which would later be dedicated to the city. Also under the terms of the agreement, Leisure Living, of Grand Rapids, would have a purchase option for three additional acres for future project phases that must be exercised within three years. Leisure Living is purchasing the property for development of a 20-bed assisted living facility in the first phase.
Leisure Living has represented potential future development of 20 additional assisted living beds and an independent living facility on the optioned three-acre site.
Leisure Living operates 14 Michigan facilities, including assisted living complexes in Buchanan and South Haven.
