Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports that his department is investigating a telephone scam that has taken place in the Dowagiac area.
Atkinson says that on Thursday, April 7, his department received two complaints of a male subject calling on the phone and identifying himself as a representative of a company called National.
The caller requested personal information about the victims and their financial accounts.
The caller told the victims that there was a problem with their accounts and that he was attempting to fix the problem for them.
One of the victims refused the information and told the caller that she would have to contact her bank.
The caller then asked what bank that was. When the victim asked the caller why he did not have that information, he hung up the phone.
Atkinson reminds residents that they should never release their personal or financial information over the phone. Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Dowagiac Police Department at 782-9743.
