DOWAGIAC - The Police Athletic League in Dowagiac has a new boxing coach.
Walter Swann has taken over the program and is hoping to help Dowagiac produce a couple of future champions.
Swann knows a thing or two about championships having won some himself.
Swann was a four-year Navy champion who competed in the Olympic Trials in 1964.
He boxed professional for several years in California before retiring in 1968 and becoming a coach.
He has coached in California and North Carolina before moving to Dowagiac with his wife.
Swann had been working with the boxing club as an assistant before taking the reigns.
Swann noted that the club is always looking for new boxers. To join one needs their parents permission to sign up.
A small fee for participating in PAL is also needed.
Swann is confident that boxers from this club can go as far as they want - including the Golden Gloves and the Olympic Trials.
